& The Savages, Barrence Whitfield, Essex, in-store, live, R&B, rock & roll, South, Southend -

A little later than planned, but here's a video of Barrence Whitfield & The Savages playing our first ever in-store captured by Agency Southend Not only is it pretty amazing that Barrence and his Savages played here, them being one of my favourite bands and all, but the guitarist Peter Greenberg and the bass player Phil Lenker were both in seminal Boston punk band The Lyres!  They both seemed a little confused that somebody from Essex, who's never set foot in Boston, firstly knew their first band so well and was a little awestruck to meet them.  I made Peter...

Thee Oh Sees new one, Drop, which was preceded by this trippy video, premiered on Stereogum last week Woods return with their new LP With Light And With Love which continues their form of the last few records.  Last time I saw them play (at the ever expensive Cargo in London) they'd added more muscle to their Kraut-folk, which translates well on this album. The legendary Afghan Whigs are also back, with their first album in 16 years Do To The Beast.  And they're back on Sub Pop to top...
