Floating Points announces his forthcoming album, ‘Cascade’, out via Ninja Tune.

‘Cascade’ pushes Floating Points’ sound forward into new places. The songs are allowed to smoulder and spark for up to eight minutes at a time, allowing for more expansive exploration of sounds and grooves than before.

A subtle homage to his hometown of Manchester ripples across ‘Cascade’. ‘Afflecks Palace’, an enveloping glide of harp melodies overtaken by otherworldly bleeps and beeps, is named after a Mancunian market described as an ‘emporium of eclecticism’. Elsewhere, there’s ‘Key 103’, named after an underground Manchester radio station a young Floating Points (aka Sam Shepherd) would listen to religiously.

Almost a decade on since ‘Elaenia’, his revered debut album, the composer has discovered ways to thread his experiments outside of club music seamlessly into his music designed for the dancefloor.

Sam will be supporting the album with a headline UK/EU tour later in 2024 / 2025, plus Summer festival dates including We Out Here, Lost Village, All Points East, BBK, Fuji Rocks and ADE.

Floating Points has received career-long critical acclaim from every major publication across the world, including Pitchfork, The Guardian, New York Times, Evening Standard, Time Magazine, The Independent, The Quietus and many, many more.

Sam recently composed a score for ballet ‘Mere Mortals’, which debuted in San Francisco and New York. He has also written a score for Shinichirō Watanabe’s forthcoming anime series, ‘Lazarus’.
