Major leagues: This week at South
Out this week: Sister Ray Davies a duo from Muscle Shoals, Alabama turn their gaze thousands of miles away with a gorgeous, fuzz-drenched concept album inspired by the ancient island of Lindisfarne. Mixing shoegaze shimmer with folk-horror atmosphere, it lands somewhere between Ride, Galaxie 500 and The Clientele - recorded at the historic Muscle Shoals Sound studio and full of soul, warmth and reverb. Available on ‘Lindisfarne Sky’ blue & white vinyl with postcard. Hank collect their acclaimed first two EPs into a single release for Dinked’s Early Doors series - noisy, melodic, hook-sharp London indie that’s already earned them a fierce reputation. This Dinked Edition comes on crystal-clear vinyl with gatefold sleeve, debossed A5 insert, bumper sticker and an extra track (400 only). MJ Lenderman’s Boat Songs returns as a deluxe Dinked Edition - the alt-country landmark reissued on green glow-in-the-dark vinyl, with a motorcycle sticker, exclusive art print, and obi strip (plus standard black). Molly Nilsson's Amateur follows next: a deeply openhearted, funny, defiant synth-pop record about choosing joy, passion and “being bad” - a celebration of desire, curiosity and doing it your own way. Oasis' Familiar to Millions hits vinyl for the first time since 2000, a 3LP reissue of the legendary Wembley Stadium show. Pavement's Hecklers Choice offers a newly compiled best-of that finally acknowledges their modern-day viral hits while keeping the mixtape classics intact. The Pavements original soundtrack is out today too, which stitches together dialogue, film scenes, jukebox-musical recordings, and live/rehearsal cuts from their 2021 reunion. Compiled with Robert Greene and mixed by Bryce Goggin, it’s a playful, essential collage of Pavement’s world, old and new. Prostitute's Attempted Martyr lands as a one-time-only Dinked (Bootleg) Edition: a white-label, hand-sprayed, ultra-limited (250 copies) version of the acclaimed Dearborn noise/post-punk debut, complete with manifesto. Susannah Stark's Minor Gestures brings a beautifully tactile blend of Gàidhlig song, folk instrumentation and ambient experimentation - a record of breath, body and mythology that invites deep listening. And finally, garage-punk royalty return: Thee Headcoatees' Man-Trap, a brand-new album produced by Billy Childish, loaded with killer covers and fresh cuts, arriving alongside The Sherlock Holmes Rhythm ’n’ Beat Vernacular, a companion release from Thee Headcoats.
