How It Works
1. Tell us about your records
Send us a few photographs or a list. For larger collections, photographs of the shelves or boxes and a selection of the records are usually enough to get started.
2. We'll take a look
We'll assess the collection based on the artists, titles, pressings and condition and let you know if it's something we'd be interested in buying.
3. We arrange the rest
You can bring records to our Southend shop by arrangement. For larger collections we can travel to you, and we buy collections throughout the UK.
4. Get paid
If we're both happy with the price, we'll arrange payment and collection. There's no pressure or obligation to sell.
What Records Are We Looking For?
We buy everything from individual valuable records to complete collections.
We're particularly interested in: indie & alternative, punk & post-punk, jazz, soul, funk & disco, hip hop, metal, krautrock & psychedelia, ambient & electronic music, soundtracks, rare and unusual pressings, 1990s and 2000s vinyl, and complete artist or label collections.
We're generally not looking for collections made up predominantly of classical, easy listening or very common low-value records, but send us some photos if you're unsure.
Inherited a Record Collection?
If you've inherited records and don't know where to start, you don't need to research or catalogue everything first.
Simply send us some photographs of the collection and a few examples of what's in it. We'll take a look and tell you whether it's something we'd be interested in buying.
We understand that selling an inherited collection can be very different from selling your own records, so there's never any pressure to make a decision.
How Do We Value Record Collections?
There's much more to valuing records than simply looking up the highest price you've seen online.
We consider the exact pressing, condition, rarity and — importantly — what records are actually selling for.
Some records may only be worth a few pounds while others can be worth hundreds or occasionally considerably more. A large collection can contain both.
Because we buy records to sell through our shop, we'll always be straightforward about which parts of a collection we're interested in and what we can offer.

South Records is an independent record shop established in Southend-on-Sea in 2014.
We're record collectors ourselves and have been buying, selling and valuing records professionally for more than 20 years.
We're particularly interested in good collections because used records are an important part of what you'll find in the shop. That means we're not simply clearing records — we're actively looking for interesting collections and individual records that our customers will want to buy.
