Step in my direction: Coming soon to South
This week’s pre-orders are led by The Avalanches, who return with their fourth album No Bad Memories. Featuring Jamie xx, Karen O, Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza, Prentiss and more, the album explores the strange way advertising, jingles and technology become tangled up with our memories, using those forgotten sounds as raw material for the group’s trademark sampling. We’ve got the limited blue vinyl LP available to pre-order now.
Also up this week, Ash revisit 1977 with a new 2LP edition pairing the original album with a second record of B-sides from the era, including Day Of The Triffids, Cantina Band, 5am Eternal and more, on limited green and black ‘inkplosion’ vinyl. Jamie T returns with Ghosts (100 Days of Morning), an 11-track album touching on growing older, love, loss and nostalgia, including a collaboration with Damon Albarn, on limited bone coloured vinyl.
Elsewhere, Hiroshi Yoshimura’s final album-length work Quiet Forest gets its first-ever vinyl release, newly remastered from the original sources and pressed at Optimal, with our version on limited ‘vibrant moss’ coloured vinyl. And Michael Kiwanuka returns with Fudge, described as his most spontaneous and instinctive record yet – loose, soulful and shaped by the simple idea of following what feels good creatively. We’ve got the indies-only mint green vinyl edition available to pre-order.

John Cale’s Paris 1919 is one of his best and most approachable solo records, mixing beautifully arranged orchestral pop with Cale’s stranger edges just beneath the surface. There’s something distinctly autumnal about it too: warm, melancholy and slightly overcast, the sort of record that seems to sound better as the evenings start drawing in. UK first pressing right here.
