Step lightly: This week at South

Shabaka returns with Of The Earth, a deeply personal solo record that brings his saxophone back to the forefront alongside electronics, global percussion and woodwinds. Written and produced entirely by Shabaka Hutchings, it is a richly layered and exploratory album that draws together the many threads of his work with Sons of Kemet, The Comet Is Coming and beyond.

Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s We Are Together Again finds Will Oldham continuing his quietly reflective late period. Recorded at his home base in Louisville, Kentucky, the album centres on friendship, community and the simple act of making music together. Andrew Wasylyk’s Irreparable Parables blends chamber arrangements with ambient and jazz textures, it arrives as a beautiful and contemplative limited Dinked Edition. The War Child charity project HELP(2) is one of the most ambitious collaborative releases in years. Recorded largely at Abbey Road and produced by James Ford, it gathers a pretty big line up including Arctic Monkeys, Big Thief, Pulp, Sampha, Fontaines D.C., Depeche Mode, Olivia Rodrigo, Ezra Collective and many more. The project now also includes an exclusive Oasis 7" single, all while raising vital funds for children affected by conflict around the world. Elsewhere, Malmö indie pop group Hater return with Mosquito, sharpening their dream pop instincts into something more melodic and immediate, while Field Commander Ali’s beautifully understated The Next From Field Commander offers intimate Australian folk recorded on four track tape in a beachside bedroom. Also new: the latest Dinked Edition from Brighton’s rising indie force SLAG.
