This week’s pre orders move between quiet detail and full scale immersion. Mitski returns with Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, continuing the orchestral and ensemble led approach of her last record, recorded with her touring band and arranged by Drew Erickson, a quietly expansive album that deepens her recent shift toward restraint and atmosphere.
Also arriving is the latest from sunn O))), their first full length release for Sub Pop, recorded as a stripped back duo and shaped by vast low end, glacial pacing and unexpectedly delicate textures. Craven Faults follow their acclaimed long form releases with Sidings, a meticulous double LP of analogue electronics rooted in northern landscapes, infrastructure and slow moving detail. Rounding things out is After The Rain, Strange Seeds by The Leaf Library, a warm, pastoral return shaped by memory, place and John McEntire’s clear, spacious mix, their most melodic and assured work to date.

Brian Wilson’s Smile finally appeared decades after it was first imagined, not as a relic but as something strangely alive. Playful, meticulous and emotionally exposed, it reframes one of pop’s great unfinished myths as a complete work, full of humour, unease and quiet wonder. We’ve currently got a first pressing in the shop, a rare chance to sit with the album as it first arrived, not as legend, but as music.
