If there's one thing music nerds love more than anything, it's a good list. We're no different, and read every list we see - websites, shops, magazines, customers, the lot - and still there's records we miss (can't listen to everything). This time next week this list of 50 could quite easily be 50 different records, and we wouldn't want it any other way. Don't let any of the 'real music' bores tell you nothing good comes out anymore, they're just not paying attention. Albums Of The Year 2016

It's come around again, the time to insist you pay attention to our taste in music.  2016 has been both a great and terrible year for music - tons of brilliant new albums (as you'll see below) and lots and lots of death.  This year we lost David Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen, Sharon Jones, Colonel Abrams, David Mancuso, Pete Burns, Bobbie Vee, Prince Buster, Alan Vega, Bernie Worrell, Guy Clark, Merle Haggard, Phife Dawg, Keith Emerson, George Martin, and loads (LOADS) more.  With all that death there needed to be some good stuff to take our mind off it, and fortunately there was.  Below are South's 20 favourite albums (note - not best; favourite), and the rest of our 50 (numbers...

South Albums Of The Year 2015

2015, like every other year if you care to dig a little, has been a great year for new music.  We've been lucky enough to put a load of great shows at the shop for free - starting the year with The Bohicas, followed by East India Youth, The Scarletts, Asylums, Fraser A. Gorman, John Doran (The Quietus), Martin Newell (The Cleaners From Venus), Muertos, Ultimate Painting, Velvet Morning, Craig Finn (The Hold Steady), Baio (Vampire Weekend), with Howard Eynon playing on Saturday and a few great ones lined up for next year already.
