2020, albums of the year, essex, record shop, records of the year, south, south record shop, south records, southend -

You don't need me to tell you about this year, we've all been through it, but I think it's safe to say that this year, more than any other, music has been a salve. With the shop being shut I've spent a lot of time walking the streets of Southend hand delivering records, which gave me time to really pay attention to the records I love. Putting them in any order is something that keeps me awake at night, I don't think any of us consider music in competition terms, and it's fair to say that after the first 10...

2019, album of the year, albums of the year, chart, end of year, essex, list, south record shop, south records, southend -

Every year it's the same - "there's no good music anymore". I hear it every day, no doubt you hear it a lot too. But those people just aren't paying attention. Don't let any of the 'real music' bores tell you nothing good comes out anymore, they're just not paying attention. Every one of these records is worth your time, even if it's 50th in the list, doesn't...

It's come around again, the time to insist you pay attention to our taste in music.  2016 has been both a great and terrible year for music - tons of brilliant new albums (as you'll see below) and lots and lots of death.  This year we lost David Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen, Sharon Jones, Colonel Abrams, David Mancuso, Pete Burns, Bobbie Vee, Prince Buster, Alan Vega, Bernie Worrell, Guy Clark, Merle Haggard, Phife Dawg, Keith Emerson, George Martin, and loads (LOADS) more.  With all that death there needed to be some good stuff to take our mind off it, and...
