Black Peaches - Fire In The Hole
"'Fire In the Hole' is the long-awaited follow up to their critically acclaimed 2016 debut 'Get Down You Dirty Rascals'. It is a dazzling a display of musicianship, just as accomplished, if not more so, than its predecessor (see reviews below). Black Peaches come from a musical point halfway between the swamp and the tropics - a psychotropic stew of country boogie, spiritual jazz and funk. With fuzz-toned slide guitars, Latin percussion and shimmering keyboards, Black Peaches sound is a cinematic experience, the soundtrack to a bar fight at the country disco or an incantation of the black arts. The band are led by Rob Smoughton, probably best known as a long-time member of Hot Chip and Scritti Politti, and whose alter-ego Grovesnor has released a number of albums to critical acclaim. Black Peaches' highly regarded musicians have also worked with Floating Points, Alexis Taylor, Zongamin, Karl Blau, Karen Elson, Vanishing Twin, Cold Specks, Reverend John Wilkins, The Severed Limb and many others. Reviews for debut 'Get Down You Dirty Rascals' (2016): An irresistible creation a swamp-mulched country boogie, its slide guitar and pedal steel giving way to something funkier and more shamanic, a rising Brazilian percussion with shades of Dr John, Can and Little Feat. ★★★★ Q Magazine A dizzyingly colourful debut that swings confidently between the jazz-inflected jams of Traffic, the Latin-influenced folk-rock of Stephen Stills' Manassas, the country-psych of Beachwood Sparks an irresistibly expansive triumph. ★★★★ Rolling Stone serving up funky Southern rock with lashings of Latin percussion. It's impeccably performedan album of very British Americana. Uncut the whole thing is carried off with such expertise and affection that the end results reinforce the source material. - ★★★★ Record Collector "
