Scientist - Heavyweight Dub Champion

At just 20 years old, Scientist created this 1980 dub landmark alongside producer “Junjo” Lawes. Built around deep, winding grooves, the record is packed with playful, almost cartoonish studio effects — bongs, boings, metallic crashes, arcade-like bleeps and squeals that bring to mind early Pac-Man sound effects. Every track title draws from boxing imagery, a theme Scientist leans into throughout, and each piece works both as its own striking dub experiment and as part of a larger, cohesive whole. As the sleeve puts it: “This ya a youthful sound fe come mash y’down.”
