South Albums Of The Year 2015

2015, like every other year if you care to dig a little, has been a great year for new music.  We've been lucky enough to put a load of great shows at the shop for free - starting the year with The Bohicas, followed by East India Youth, The Scarletts, Asylums, Fraser A. Gorman, John Doran (The Quietus), Martin Newell (The Cleaners From Venus), Muertos, Ultimate Painting, Velvet Morning, Craig Finn (The Hold Steady), Baio (Vampire Weekend), with Howard Eynon playing on Saturday and a few great ones lined up for next year already. Howard Eynon - Live at South

Australian acid-folk maverick Howard Eynon (Earth Recordings) is making his way to the UK and EU for the first time this November/December, after supporting Wreckless Eric at a few shows, will be playing a free show here at South on Saturday 12th December at 2pm Facebook event page Howard’s one and only album ‘So What If I’m Standing In Apricot Jam’ was originally released in 1974 and became one of the rarest and most sought after acid-folk records. The album is a bizarre and wonderful folk treasure in the vein of wild-eyed geniuses such as Syd Barrett, Kevin Ayers, Neil Innes or Nick Drake, although perhaps even more beautiful and mysterious.
