The Abstraction is the new band fronted by The Weather Prophets' Pete Astor, along with his friends James Hoare (Ultimate Painting), Rose Keeler-Schaffeler (KEEL HER) and Juan Jacinto. This trip to Southend is their first gig (or close to anyway). Don't miss it.
Pete Astor is a bloody legend (mate). He was in Creation Records darlings The Loft and The Weather Prophets, amongst many other great bands. You may have seen him play in Southend earlier this year, when we brought him to town. If not, now's your chance to make amends as he's playing the shop, for free, on a Saturday afternoon (no excuses). He also has a great new record out in February, which you can order HERE Facebook Event Page - HERE
For our latest South Social we had indie legend, and all round lovely man, Pete Astor headline, with support from MelodieGroup. Here's a video of Pete, backed by MG, performing the Loft's classic Why Does The Rain And some pictures, all by Gary Franklin, from the night
Viking Moses will be playing a free gig at lunchtime on Saturday 27th May. He'll be performing at the Railway the night before, but playing a completely different set here. More info - Facebook Event His songs have been covered by fans such as Malcolm Middleton, Devendra Banhart, Slow Club, etc, for a tribute album. Viking Moses, AKA Brendon Massei, achieves a special balance of warmth and command, with familiar melodies that draw listeners in and oblige them to stay. Strongly lyrical songs are played out through tunes that flirt with pop, soul and Americana, all strung together with a unique pulsing guitar, and by Massei's robust voice, which ebbs from delicate whispers to throaty howls.vikingmoses.com en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_Mosesvikingmoses.bandcamp.com facebook.com/vikingmosestwitter.com/vikingmosesinstagram.com/vikingmoses
We've had a couple of in-store gigs this week, both bands that played last year. The first was Ultimate Painting, who were here promoting their recently released third album on Trouble In Mind and we then had Muertos down to play for the release of their debut EP on Wrong Way Records. Below are a couple of videos of what you would've seen/or what you missed. We have Saint Leonard's Horses playing on Thursday 10th November, and then The Faux, the world's only tribute to The Fall, playing on 3rd December. Check the Events link for more info.
